lessons from summer

Posted on Wednesday, 20 August 2014

I don't know how it is for other people but my life seems to be all or nothing. Either everything is happening at once, every project, every opportunity and every idea or I am at a stand still. This summer has been a quiet one for me and gave me the opportunity to really think about what I want, to reevaluate my life and to really dive into my spiritual practice. Maybe I just needed a breather, a moment to be still and get back to the root of who I am. So what did I learn in all this. Well I learned that my soul craves constant change and being a part of multiple projects and even though I want them to be perfect I have to just dive in and see what happens. Sometimes if we wait for the perfect moment we might be waiting forever!

1) go for it!

The second thing I learned was that I really need to take care of myself before I can take care of others. Your soul can long for something and it could be a large goal and take alot of courage and determination and it might not happen when you want it to. I have had to learn patience and a key lesson that you are where you are and that is perfect. Coming to terms with that reality I have had to take on another job to pay the bills. I am grateful for the job I did get because they have all been so kind to me and I also have an ease about life because I can now properly take care of myself, which means healthy full meals! nights out with friends and long overdue vacations.

2) take care of yourself

Another major thing I learned this summer is to really practice the idea of being still. I started a meditation practice and I can honestly say that on the days I meditate I feel so much better, lighter and happier. My days can get pretty busy with planning my upcoming Nashville trip, working on projects related to The People's Climate march, working on my feature script, catching up with friends, working my many jobs, auditions etc etc and there never seems to be enough time to meditate. But now I make time, I wake up earlier and make the time because I know it makes all my other activities in the day that much better. So as I embark on an extremely busy but exciting September I always remember to find time to be still.

3) be still

fashion fridays ~ 90's grunge

Posted on Friday, 15 August 2014

This fashion fridays post goes out to the super talented Jordan de Ruiter and her fall collection! Jordan's line is known for it's tulle dresses and super feminine silhouettes but for fall she decided to add a 90s grunge vibe to her classic pieces. I was thrilled that she asked me to model for this collection shot by the lovely Scarlet (who I am going to Nashville with very very soon!).

Fashion Fridays // Prints in the park

No climate video would be complete without a great outfit. For the shoot I wore a redesigned vintage dress, vintage black boots, a spanish and sister fringe purse and some vintage jewels. Thanks to Sarjoun Faour for the photos.

The People's Climate March is happening September 21st and I will definitely be there for this monumental moment in history. I have been a huge supporter and follower of the incredible organization Avaaz, a community that brings to light and impacts causes all over the world. When they sent out an email several weeks ago asking what the community thinks would be a great way to share the message of the upcoming People's Climate March, I wrote to them with the idea of a video campaign giving a face to the climate change cause. I feel like many people had the same idea and was thrilled to receive an email asking everyone in the community to send a clip for Avaaz's climate video: #worthsaving. It's amazing to see this online community band together and create tangible change. I jumped at the chance to create my video submission, filming in my favourite location in High Park, a gorgeous rural escape in the heart of Toronto. Here is the video that I created with the help of my super talented photographer neighbour Sarjoun Faour.

Monday Mantra ~ Set you free

Posted on Monday, 4 August 2014

Procrastination is fear. I read that on a blog today and thought how true that statement is. When we put off doing things for "the right time" we are simply afraid. Afraid of the outcome, afraid of failing, afraid we don't have the right resources and afraid of what other people will think. But that fear is not real, it's something we create in our mind, conditions and stories we tell ourselves. But you are capable of being and doing anything you feel called to do, you just need to start. You will never truly be ready for anything, so why not start? It is really as simple as doing one small act a day. And this could be anything: research, an email, a phone call, asking for advice, reading a book on the topic...and eventually one thing will lead to another and another until you reach your goal.

I will tell you something I am afraid of. This september 21st there is a people's climate march that is happening because the heads of state are meeting in New York for a climate summit. There will be groups congregating all over but mainly in New York. I have signed up for this march and upon researching if a march is occurring in Toronto I have yet to find one. Which leads me to possibly creating one if I do not find an organization already starting one. This is so terrifying to me but I know that it is something I need to be a part of. To find out more about this go to peoplesclimate.org

Anyone with more information on this or would like to join me in this endeavour and in the Toronto area, email me! ana.camille.alic@gmail.com

Fashion Fridays // Pastel Pool Party BTS

Posted on Friday, 1 August 2014

It's friday and I'm in love....with my Stone Cold Fox Love Jumper that is! This silk jumper couldn't be more perfect for the party my friends (Paige and Alyssa) hosted last week. They planned the most amazing, colourful, detailed, unique and fun pastel pool party. Along with the perfect jumper I was wearing an armed headpiece from Bicyclette Boutique, the perfect statement piece for any occasion. Here are some behind the scenes photos, I will be sharing some more professional shots next week when the ladies release the photo shoot!
